George Teal joined Leeds Education Offices Sports Club in 1925 after qualifying as a teacher.

This is the letter George received inviting him to join the club

George had attended Leeds Training College where, as well as playing for the College rugby team, he had also been selected for Yorkshire Wanderers, a representative team that played midweek games against school and college teams.

George’s first game for Leeds Education Office Sports Club was away at York and North Riding on Saturday the 5th of September 1925. Leeds Education Offices Sports Club won the game.

Below is the postcard George received informing him that he had selected to play against York and North Riding

The game at York was the first of many appearances that George Teal made for Leeds Education Offices Sports Club. In 1930 when the club changed its name to Leeds Chirons, George continued to play regularly alongside his contribution off the field as a club official.

The story of a forgotten rugby union club is told in Leeds Who? Available from the York Bookshop.
